A great deal of care has been taken in choosing the best components possible to create attractive and structurally sound designs. This is a garden that will function and last for many years. Our garden structures are superior to any comparable online product. When the work is done, just walk in and start enjoying your garden! Western Red Cedar: Western Red Cedar is the premium choice for garden beds. If cedar is chosen for construction, this lumber is also purchased from the same local lumber company. Our lumber is purchased from a reputable locally owned lumber yard, not a big box retail store. The structural integrity of the garden is enhanced through the use of quality wood. Pressure Treated: The pressure treated lumber manufactured today is safe and commonly recommended for raised beds. This new method of protecting the wood with Micronized Copper is very different from older methods. There is NO arsenic in the lumber used. Interior Bed Liner: Commercial grade landscape fabric is used to line the interior of the beds. This helps hold the soil in place as well as extending the life of the wood beds. Fasteners: High quality fasteners designed by Fasten Master are used in construction. These large “lag” type screws are galvanized and coated with a durable black ceramic finish. These fasteners are used in the structural joints of deck construction. Fencing: 12.5 gauge high tensile strength knotted steel wire. The wire is coated with level 3 galvanization which is the highest and longest lasting available. The wire/fencing is knotted, not welded, for much longer life and is painted black. Deer and groundhogs cannot get through. Hardware/Hinges: Hinges are purchased from a small online supplier. The hinges are galvanized ¼ think steel that is electro powder coated for a very long life and attractive black finish. Again, you will not find these hinges in retail stores. Site Preperation: For most jobs very little if any excavation is needed. The supporting posts are set on stone pads and the entire structure is tied together forming a fully integrated system. There is no concrete used to set the posts in the ground which means the garden could be disassembled and moved. The security of the garden is also achieved by the filling of the beds. Additionally, hidden posts or anchors are driven into the ground and attached to the garden posts Soil: Your garden beds are filled with a custom “garden mix” of topsoil, leaf compost, mushroom manure, and sand. Plants thrive in this soil. Animal Protection: To keep deer, rabbits and ground hogs from chewing through the fencing, we use a 12.5 gauge high tensile strength knotted steel wire. The wire is coated with level 3 galvanization which is the highest and longest lasting available. The wire/fencing is knotted, not welded, for much longer life and is painted black. Deer and groundhogs cannot get through. Additionally, this fencing can be laid as a "carpet" on the ground and the garden can be built directly on top of it. Groundhogs cannot burrow into the garden. Although not normally required, total enclosure can be achieved by also fastening the fencing over the top of the garden. Mild electric deterrent wire can also be fastened to the garden in various configurations.
Although much of this sounds “heavy duty” the garden does not have an overbearing appearance. A visit to one of my completed projects can be arranged if you would like to see a garden up close. Additionally, references can be provided.
